HISTORY OF PG GROUP :

The history of the PG Group dates back to 1897, when the Plate Glass Bevelling and Silvering Company was established in Cape Town . It was from this small beginning that PGSI grew, flourishing under the guidance of Morris Lubner, to be floated on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 1946. Then, in 1992, PGSI acquired the Pilkington interest to hold 100% of GSA. At that stage, all the manufacturing and processing facilities for building glass were consolidated on the Springs site. The float glass line supplies the entire South African glass industry; from the merchants and distributors of building glass, furniture and appliance manufacturers, to aluminium fabricators and manufacturers of automotive glass.

Following the unbundling and de-listing of PGSI in 1999, Glass South Africa was renamed PG Group. The operating divisions of the Group are PFG Building Glass, Shatterprufe, PG Glass, GSA, Primador and Widney.

HISTORY OF PFG :

PFG Building Glass is part of the PG Group, a leading figure in Africa 's glass industry with an expanding global footprint in the building and automotive sectors.

Situated in Springs, west of Johanessburg, PFG was developed by Pilkington Bros in the 1950s, with the first drawn sheet glass line commissioned in 1951. A second sheet glass line was brought into production in 1965. Pilkington's revolutionary float glass technology was introduced when its first production line, SP3, was commissioned in 1977. This was followed by the introduction of a second float line (SP4), in 2007 and the upgrading and repair of SP3 in 2009.
