Installation of world class float glass manufacturing line - 2007
In 2007 we built and commissioned our second float glass line on the PFG site in Springs. This project formed part of the PG Groups' R1billion capacity expansion and improvement programme over three years.
The new float line (SP4) features the latest glass-making technology, including automated on-line cutting and packing, and a facility to produce coated glass.
Together with our first float line (SP3), the new float line has increased our float glass manufacturing capacity to 260 000 tons per annum. SP3, which was built in 1977, will undergo a substantial upgrade in 2009, thus enabling the PG Group to meet the glass needs of its regional markets and still have an additional capacity to export to Europe , the USA and other regions.
Key contractors on the SP4 project were Jones & Wagner (civil and structural engineering), Turner and Townsend (QS), Stefanutti / Concor joint venture (piling and civils concrete) and TECO Stein Heurtey (furnace and lehr).
* The new float line manufactures high quality glass for building and automotive applications. In addition to its investment at Springs, the PG Group is involved in a R15million technology upgrade at its two automotive glass manufacturing plants at the Shatterprufe division in Port Elizabeth and Garankuwa, in Pretoria . |
