MIRROR: manufacturing process
PFG mirrors, branded Images, are manufactured in a modern, automatic silvering plant that produces a range of mirror sizes and thicknesses, to the highest quality specification as per PFG's ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14 001 environmental certifications.
Only the highest quality PFG float glass is selected for silvering. In the manufacturing process, a silver metal coating is applied to a sensitized glass surface. This silver layer is then protected by a layer of copper, as well as a specially formulated base paint coat to prevent chemical attack. A second top paint coat protects the mirror from abrasion and provides a smooth, even finish. Quality tests are carried out throughout the manufacturing process, with particular emphasis on:
- The paint coat
- Base paint coat
- Silver
- Tin-sensitivity
- Float glass
