PFG manufactures and supplies two leading brands of sealants (putty), Easiglaze and Multiglaze. Both brands are used in the installation of glass panes, where a quality, lasting solution is required. Environmentally - friendly and made from quality raw materials, the products are easy to use, have a 12 month shelf life and deliver consistent chemical bonding, adhesion and drying time. Easiglaze is SANS 680 certified.

1. Estimate your usage of putty for the glazing job but do not prepare more than you can use in 40 minutes.
2. Set sufficient putty aside for the backing putty (no drying compound added).
3. Place any unused putty back in the liner and fold to seal.
4. Shake the drying compound well before use.
5. Split the putty required into four segments. Add an equal portion of drying compound to each quarter. Sufficient drying compound is provided for the whole bag of putty.
6. Replace the cap on the unused portion of drying agent.
7. Mix each quarter and then the four segments together to ensure that the drying compound is mixed into the putty.
8. Knead the putty and drying compound for ten minutes.
9. For optimum performance ensure that unused putty (with drying compound added) is not kept for more than 40 minutes.

To ensure consistent, guaranteed performance, it is important that no chemicals or oxides be added to the putty. This will break down the molecular structure of the putty, adversely impacting the adhesion, bonding and long-life performance of the product. You may add linseed oil for better workability.

GLAZING WITH EASIGLAZE

Make sure the frame is clean. All old putty must be removed with a putty knife. Metal frames should be painted with a primer to reduce rusting. Allow the primer to dry before glazing. Wooden frames should be painted with a suitable wood sealer.

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES

• Ensure that the frames (new and existing) are free from dust, rust, oil and dirt. Old putty should also be removed. Metal frames should be painted with a primer (allow the primer to dry for at least 16 hours). Wooden frames must be sealed with a suitable wood sealer.
• Backing putty (the putty applied to the frame behind the glass) should be 3mm to 4mm thick. Do not add drying compound to the backing putty, as you need to allow for normal thermal expansion.
• Apply the putty by hand using your thumb. This will ensure sufficient adhesion to the frame.
• Upon placing the glass pane, apply a firm pressure at the edges of the pane. Do not press in the centre of the pane.
• The holding putty (the putty applied to secure the glass in place) must be finished off with a putty knife. A 60 degree angle is standard.

POST-GLAZING APPLICATION PROCEDURES WITH EASIGLAZE

• Allow the putty to dry for at least seven days before painting.
• The glazed putty should not be left unpainted for more than 17 days.
• For steel window frames:
• Apply a universal undercoat to the frame and putty.
• Apply the final layers of the specified paint.
• For wooden window frames:
  
  • Apply two to three coats of varnish to the frame and finished putty.
  • Allow to dry between coats.

This process should be repeated after three months. A maintenance coat every 12 months ensures enduring putty performance.
